Summer Student – Public Operations
Reporting to the Public Works Supervisor, the Public Operations Summer Student is responsible for performing general maintenance duties at municipal parks, beaches and outdoor sporting fields.Public Works and Water and Wastewater Services Responsibilities
- Hydrant maintenance, including painting.
- General labour, including weed whipping and grass cutting.
- GPS locating infrastructure.
- Work special events when needed.
- Assist staff when needed.
- Shop and fleet organization
- Other duties as assigned
Eligibility Requirements and General Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age by May 1, 2026.
- Must be in full-time attendance at a Secondary School, University or Community College recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education and returning to school in September 2026.
- Have and maintain a valid G2 or G driver’s licence.
- Heavy lifting may be required at times.
- Experience operating handheld tools and lawn maintenance equipment, including tractors and related equipment.
Working Conditions
- 40 hours per week.
- Evening and weekend shifts may be required.
- Working outside in various weather conditions.
Hourly Rate of Pay
$18.36 per hour first year student
$20.40 per hour returning student
