Camp Summer Student
Reporting to the Manager of Recreation Programs and Special Events, or designate, the Camp Summer Student is responsible for acting as a leader to campers by providing safe and fun activities. Responsibilities
- Act as a leader to provide campers with safe and fun activities by way of quality instruction, program planning, implementation, and appropriate supervision that supports the objectives, policies, and procedures of the Recreation Department.
- Work in conjunction with the staff to provide on-site support, communication and assistance to Camp Leaders. Prepare and implement or modify daily and special activities as directed by the Programmer.
- Assist with the arrival and or departure of campers. Maintain and oversee accurate administrative, attendance, and medical records for all camps.
- Ensure the cleanliness and safety of the program area.
- Effectively provide quality customer service and act as a knowledgeable resource to parents, participants, and co-workers.
- Effectively and in a timely manner communicate with Supervisor/Designate
- Ensure all aspects related to facilities, staffing, participants, equipment, supplies or anything that would impact the quality and safe delivery of day-to-day operations of the camp are met.
- Incorporate and model the HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development in program delivery
- Work at other events such as Canada Day, Block Parties, or programs outside of camp etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Eligibility Requirements and General Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age by July 1, 2026.
- Must be in full time attendance at a Secondary School, University or Community College recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education and returning to school in September 2026.
- Have and maintain a valid G2 or G driver’s licence.
- Have completed the HIGH FIVE Priniciples of Healthy Child Development prior to employment.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and complete tasks and assignments with minimal supervision within specified time frames.
- Enjoy working with children and assist with various events
- Ability to operate a variety of office programs and equipment efficiently and proficiently.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to deal with the public, staff and outside groups and agencies.
Working Conditions
- 40 hours per week.
- Evening and weekend shifts required.
- Working outside in various weather conditions.
- Two Month Contract- July to September
$18.36 per hour
