Summer Student – Recreation Programs and Special Events

The Recreation Program and Special Events Summer Student will support the Recreation Programs and Special Events Department by assisting with the preparation, organization, evaluation and execution of Town lead programs and events. This role offers valuable insight into municipal operations, community engagement, volunteer management and political acuity.  

RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Provide assistance to Manager of Recreation Programs and Special Events, or designate with the setup, take down, and ongoing maintenance of event or camp related items before, during and after programs and events.
  2. Assist in organizing and updating various programs and related projects related to Kingsville Recreation Programs and Special Events Department
  3. Assist in planning and execution of events related to Kingsville Recreation Programs and Events Department.
  4. Support the planning and operations of the Summer Camp  
  5. Assist in raising awareness of programs and events such as delivering flyers, informing people at events, creating videos, or taking pictures.
  6. Supporting various committees such as Fantasy of Lights, Migration Festival and Communities in Bloom.
  7. Act as a Kingsville Ambassador at events, promoting Town programs and initiatives.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be at least 16 years of age by May 1, 2026.
  • Must be in full time attendance at a Secondary School, University or Community College recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education and returning to school in September 2026.
  • Have completed the HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development within one month of employment.
  • Have and maintain a valid G2 or G driver’s licence.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and complete tasks and assignments with minimal supervision within specified time frames.
  • Enjoy working with children and being at outdoors at events
  • Ability to operate a variety of office programs and equipment efficiently and proficiently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to deal with the public, staff and outside groups and agencies.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is considered an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • 40 hours per week.
  • Evening and weekend shifts are mandatory.
  • Working outside in various weather conditions.
  • Four Month Term from May to September

Hourly Rate of Pay:
$18.36 per hour first year students
$20.40 per hour returning students
